SXSW 2025: METALLICA On Apple Vision Pro

At this year’s SXSW Film Inquiry was able to previous Apple’s new release of Metallica in concert on Apple Vision Pro. Through a guided instructional we were able to see just how extensive this incredible equipment was. And wow, it blew me away!

Not only can you look at pictures in new and different ways than ever before, quite literally putting you in the center of them, but you can also experience some original content by Apple including a concert from Metallica.

As someone who knows a lot 0f their music, but not necessarily is a huge fan, I have to say, this experience made me appreciate them a lot more.

Through a variety of angles and with your ability to actually choose way to look (and there is so much to see!) it’s as if you are in the middle of the concert, screaming fans and all, and it’s incredibly immersive.

From a storytelling point of view it’s a fantastic way to bring your audience into the middle of the individual’s worlds. You get some insight into each of the bandmates as well as a very up close and personal view of their performance. It was intoxicating, and hard not to want to bang your head along with the music. It’s a thrill ride that you can’t believe until you experience, and it provides a sensory exhilaration that transports you across the world and in the middle of rock and roll. When Enter Sandman came on, Metallica never sounded better, and the electrifying performance was like anything I have seen. In person at a show, there’s a rhythm that you feel throughout your body, something that makes you feel as if you’re part of the concert. But, the one thing you miss is the perfect view.

This gives you that energy, that connection, but also allows you to see everything. Suffice to say, I was impressed. And I wanted to experience it again. Something that’s thrilling about this too is the ability to do it multiple times and discover new exciting details each time. It’s worth it and the rush is real.

Apple continues to up the game and with this release…the sky is the limit.

With Metallica on Apple Vision Pro, you feel like you’re right there: front row, backstage, and even on stage with one of the biggest bands of all time.”
